Ari Aster's forthcoming film, Eddington, is poised to make a significant impact in 2025.Â

A contemporary Western set in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film delves into the escalating tensions within a small New Mexico town.​
Set in May 2020, Eddington follows Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) and Mayor Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal) as they navigate a volatile political landscape in Eddington, New Mexico.Â
The narrative intensifies when a controversial incident involving the sheriff leads to public unrest and personal turmoil.Â
The film explores themes of societal fracture, political ambition, and personal conflict during a time of national crisis.Â

Ari Aster directs and writes the film, reuniting with Phoenix after their collaboration on Beau Is Afraid.Â
The film is produced by Aster and Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner, with cinematography by Darius Khondji and a score composed by Bobby Krlic, who previously worked with Aster on Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid.
Eddington will premiere in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before its theatrical release in the United States on July 18, 2025.Â
The film is produced by A24, known for its distinctive and thought-provoking productions.
Besides Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, the other stars of the film are Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Micheal Ward, with Austin Butler, and Emma Stone.
