Councillor Barbara Mazzali launches an ideal "Olympic travel relay" through Lombardy’s twelve provinces, showcasing the region’s Olympic spirit. The journey kicks off in Brescia on March 9.

THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN: LOMBARDY IGNITES THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT AT BIT 2025.

With just one year to go until the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lombardy is embracing the Olympic passion and regional pride. The heart of this excitement beats strongly at BIT 2025, where Barbara Mazzali, Lombardy’s Councillor for Tourism, Fashion, Marketing, and Major Events, has unveiled an ambitious territorial marketing project:

A ten-month journey through Lombardy’s 12 provinces, featuring dedicated events that will tell the story of Olympic Lombardy.

"This is not just a series of events," explains Councillor Mazzali, "but a narrative that spans our entire region. It’s an itinerary connecting sporting events with celebrations of our history and traditions, building up emotions as we approach the Olympics. Each province, with its signature event, will be a key piece of this collective story—one that aims to make Lombards aware of how deeply their land is intertwined with this grand adventure."

A TOURISTIC RELAY INSPIRED BY THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT.

This journey unfolds as a symbolic Olympic relay, kicking off on March 9 in Brescia with the BAM - Brescia Art Marathon. It will then weave through the twelve provinces of Lombardy, each hosting a signature event:

  • Pavia commemorates the 500th anniversary of its historic battle with the CorriBattaglia race.

  • Milan hosts Italy’s fastest marathon along with the Family Run.

  • Lodi celebrates sports and inclusion with the Laus Open Games.

  • Cremona pays tribute to its river heritage with La Grande Festa del Fiume Po.

  • Mantova revives the historic Minciomarcia.

  • Varese enchants with a musical and sporting experience at Sacro Monte.

  • Lecco invites visitors to reconnect with nature through Lecco loves Mountains.

  • Monza welcomes motorsport fans with Monza Fuori GP - Olympic Hearts.

  • Bergamo offers a cultural hiking experience with the Millegradini walk.

  • Valtellina combines wine and running with the Wine Trail Family.

  • Como wraps up the year with the breathtaking Como Lake Half Marathon, a race along the shores of the iconic lake.

This exciting journey through sports, culture, and tradition will bring Lombardy’s Olympic spirit to life, leading up to the Milano-Cortina 2026 Games.

“THE OLYMPICS BELONG TO ALL OF LOMBARDY”

"We wanted to create a journey that enhances every part of Lombardy, because the Olympics don’t belong only to Milan or Cortina—they belong to the entire region. This journey, combining sports and events with strong local identities, aims to make every citizen feel part of something bigger, instilling a sense of pride in being protagonists of a moment the whole world envies."Barbara Mazzali, Councillor for Tourism, Fashion, Marketing, and Major Events

"LOMBARDIA STYLE" MEETS THE OLYMPICS:

The initiative is closely linked to the new regional brand, "Lombardia Style", designed to boost the region’s appeal not only for tourism but also for investment and economic opportunities.

"This journey doesn’t end with the Games—it’s part of a long-term strategy. We want to leave a lasting legacy that continues to make Lombardy shine well beyond 2026. Through the lens of the Olympics and the beauty of our landscapes, we will tell Lombardy’s story to the world, but most importantly, to the people of Lombardy themselves—so they can rediscover their region with fresh eyes."Barbara Mazzali
